When I launched A Nonviolent God in January 2025, I began with the slightly obscure biblical book of Lamentations for three reasons. The first was simply familiarity. I'd written about Lamentations in my debut book Lament Forgive, so it seemed a good idea to start by exploring something I already knew a lot about. The second was I already owned commentaries on Lamentations. And as those are expensive, it eased the original financial outlay to get the site up and running.
The third reason is the most important one. When you're trying to introduce others to the idea that God is as nonviolent as Jesus, it helps to start by looking at a book in the Bible where it should be obvious that God is not the cause of the people's suffering; the Babylonians were.
The first three chapters are free to read, while Chapter and Book Patrons can read all chapters of Lamentations and A Nonviolent God online after signing in.

The only major difference between the published book's text and the online version you can read above, is that there are more sub-headings in the online version to make it easier to read without paginations.
